--chilean navy

On a cold and frosty morning along the Wellington waterfront, the last thing I ever expected to witness was a beautiful and classic four masted vessel coming into port. Not only that, but there was a decidedly energetic welcoming party eagerly awaiting the arrival with flags raised high and a smile on every face. It turns out that the vessel in question was the Chilean training ship better known as the Esmeralda, which is a barquentine tall ship and the second tallest in the world.

The crowd that had gathered burst into song once the ship was near and sure enough in an equal vociferous strength, the crew of the ship joined in. It was as though a small portion of Chile had landed squarely on my doorstep.
